ECG (Electrocardiogram)

We have Healthcare Assistants at the practice who can perform an ECG (electrocardiogram) where a clinician has indicated this to be done. Appointments can be arranged by speaking with one of the reception team following an assessment by a clinician.

The 12 lead electrocardiogram, commonly referred to as an ECG or EKG, is a diagnostic tool that measures and records the electrical activity of the heart.

By placing a series of small electrodes on the skin, the ECG device is able to detect the tiny electrical impulses generated by the heart’s muscle contractions and transmit them into a graph or printout. This provide a wealth of valuable information about the heart’s function from 12 different angles, allowing Doctor’s to identify any irregularities or abnormalities that may be indicative of heart disease or other cardiovascular issues therefore making an assessment of overall health and determine the most appropriate course of treatment.

The unique wave patterns produced by an ECG can reveal the heart’s rhythm, the strength and timing of the electrical signals as they move through the different chambers, and whether there are any blockages or damage to the heart muscle itself.

The ECG is a safe, non-invasive procedure and usually takes approximately 20-30 minutes.
